Exclusive images shared by whistleblowers from Project Existence and Interspecies Solidarity reveal an intensive agricultural system on its last legs in Quebec.
In 2015, the Animal Welfare and Safety Act came into force in Quebec. Many believe that since then, animals have been protected in our province. However, the 23 minutes of undercover footage produced between 2020 and 2025 tell a completely different story – even if they are only small sample of all of the images we received. These images immerse us in all the major industries in Quebec: pigs, chickens, dairy cows, and turkeys. We discover the consequences of intensive agriculture in all its forms:
Even more terrible is the realization that these images are not isolated cases or “bad farms.” These conditions are indeed the norm in Quebec for most farmed animals. Caged sows, pigs killed at 3% of their life expectancy, cows undergoing repeated artificial inseminations, to name just a few of the shocking but entirely standard practices in the agri-food industry.
Even today, not all animals in Quebec are sufficiently protected by law. Currently, their rights do not depend on their sensitivity or intelligence, but on their exploitation by various industries.

These images were taken on different farms in Quebec over several years. They show that, far from what industries try to make us believe, the vast majority of animals in Quebec do not live on small farms where they are happy. On the contrary, the vast majority of animals in our province are today victims of a system where the priority is profit and productivity.
Since the publication of Law B 3.1 on animal welfare in 2015 in Quebec, farms have continued to grow, and animals to suffer. Meanwhile, this same Law B 3.1 continues to maintain enormous ambiguity regarding the regulation of farming practices in Quebec, with disastrous consequences for animals. While industries produce codes of practice to present a good image, these codes do not have the force of law in Quebec, are not respected in practice, and are often not even known by workers.
Whether it’s by reducing your consumption of animal products, or by using your passion and talents to defend their rights, there are many ways to help animals in Quebec.
