When you use our website, or interact with us by subscribing to our newsletter, signing one of our petitions, or making a donation to us, we collect some of your data in order to communicate with you and manage your interaction with us.
When you browse our website, we collect certain anonymous data in order to know who uses our site and how it is used. This data concerns your IP address, the pages you visit and the links you click on.
Â
This type of data (called analytics in web jargon) are invaluable to us in identifying if certain pages are not easy to access for our users; but also to see if some of the traffic our website receives comes from bots/robots that may have nefarious purposes. We have chosen to use an alternative analytics platform, called Umami, which is designed to protect the privacy of our visitors (https://umami.is/docs). Umami allows us to keep an anonymized trace of your use of our site (pages visited, etc.), but your IP address is completely inaccessible to us because it is encrypted.
Â
On our platform, cookies (small computer files containing information about you) may be used to analyze the use of our site. If this is the case, a window allows you to deactivate these cookies if you wish.
When you fill in our newsletter subscription form or one of our petitions, it records your IP address for spam protection purposes. We also store in our database the information you provide in the form.
Â
This information is shared with the e-mail service we use, Moosend. You can access their privacy policy at https://www.sitecore.com/legal/privacy-policy. Whatever happens, once your information is in our database on Moosend, it is not exchanged or sold to any other company or organization.
Â
When you receive one of our newsletters or an e-mail from us looking at the signature of one of our petitions, this e-mail contains functions that allow us to see whether you have received, opened or clicked on a link in the newsletter. These functions are important for us to ensure that our e-mails don’t end up in our subscribers’ junk mail/spam folders, and that they offer content that remains engaging for you.
When you fill in the donation form, your information is then processed by the Donorbox service we use, whose privacy policy can be found at https://donorbox.org/privacy. Your details are then stored in our Donorbox database, so that we can keep track of your donation for financial purposes and to communicate with you.
Â
Similar to the Moosend service for our e-mails, once your information is in our Donorbox database, it is not sold or exchanged with any other company or organization.
Â
Your banking information is processed by Stripe (https://stripe.com/en-ca/privacy) and Paypal (https://www.paypal.com/us/legalhub/privacy-full). These two secure money transfer services are among the most widely used on the web. These companies share some of your data with third-party services in order to complete the transaction, but are not intended to share your information with other companies for commercial or advertising purposes without your consent.
Your data is shared with the services described above: Ionos(analytics), Moosend (emails), and Donorbox (donations).
Â
Apart from these services, which are essential to maintain the functions of our website, we do not exchange or resell your data with any other organization or company.
Your data may be accessed by members of B.E.S.A. mandated by its board of directors with such access, to be able to communicate with you, or to maintain the operation of our website.
Your personal data is kept for a period of time consistent with the purposes for which it was collected, and in accordance with our legal obligations. Once this period has elapsed, your data is either deleted or anonymized and kept solely for statistical purposes.
You have the right to ask us at any time to delete any data concerning you from our databases by contacting us at the following address info@besa.quebec or request access to such data.
All databases managed by B.E.S.A. are located on secure services. B.E.S.A. carries out annual IT risk analyses, and we have a strict policy on the use of good cybersecurity practices within our organization.
