BESA is recruiting! 3 volunteer positions to advance animal rights in Quebec

Media Relations Manager

Tasks :

  • Establishing and maintaining media relations
  • Supervise, coordinate and participate in the drafting of press releases
  • Ensure alignment of media communications with BESA’s values and mission
  • Keep an up-to-date database of social media accounts and mainstream journalists who are sympathetic to our cause

Commitment:

 

In busy periods, between 7 and 10 hours a week, for one or two weeks, between one and three times a year.

 

In off-peak periods, between 0 and 2 hours per week.

Prerequisites :

  • Good knowledge of the media
  • Experience or studies in press relations
  • Good ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Good knowledge of the animal rights movement in Quebec or an interest in learning more

On-call lawyer

Tasks :

  • Be in direct communication with the general coordination of BESA
  • Provide legal support and advice to BESA, particularly with regard to criminal law
  • Review policy development drafted by BESA

Commitment:

 

Approximately 2 hours per week

Prerequisites :

  • Actively practice law or legal analysis
  • Have a good knowledge of animal rights in Quebec, particularly the law B 3.1
  • Good knowledge of the animal rights movement in Quebec and internationally, or interest in learning more

Lobbying and law reform projects manager

Tasks :

  • Target provincial and federal laws and municipal bylaws that BESA should campaign on to achieve short- or medium-term gains for the animals.
  • Work with the legal team to validate proposed amendments to existing laws
  • Monitor pending legislation to identify opportunities to make gains for animals
  • Participate in the writing of briefs
  • Contact political parties on behalf of BESA to organize meetings and defend amendments or laws proposed by BESA.
  • Drawing inspiration from the policies of other countries to advance our proposals
  • Identify collaborations with other animal rights organizations

Commitment:

 

Between 5 and 10 hours a week

Prerequisites :

  • Good knowledge of federal, municipal and provincial politics
  • Good ability to express ideas clearly and convincingly, both orally and in writing
  • Good ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Good knowledge of the animalist movement in Quebec and internationally, or an interest in learning more about it
  • Legal experience an asset
