BESA is hiring! 3 volunteer positions to advance animal rights in Quebec

Media Relations Manager

Tasks:

  • Engage and maintain relationships with the media
  • Oversee, coordinate, and participate in the drafting of press releases
  • Ensure media communications align with BESA’s values and mission
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of social media accounts and traditional press journalists who are sympathetic to our cause

Commitment: 

 

During busy periods, between 7 and 10 hours per week, for one to two weeks, one to three times a year. 

 

During off-peak periods, between 0 and 2 hours per week.

Prerequisites:

  • Strong knowledge of the media landscape
  • Experience or education in media relations
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of the animal rights movement in Quebec or an interest in learning

On-call legal counsel

Tasks: 

  • Maintain direct communication with the general coordination of BESA
  • Provide legal support and advice to BESA, particularly regarding criminal/penal law
  • Review the development of policies drafted by BESA

Commitment: 

 

Approximately 2 hours per week

Prerequisites:

  • Actively practicing law or legal analysis
  • Have a good knowledge of animal law in Quebec, particularly the B-3.1 Act
  • Good knowledge of the animal rights movement in Quebec and internationally, or an interest in learning

Lobbying and Law Reform Project Lead

Tasks: 

  • Target provincial and federal laws and municipal bylaws that BESA should campaign for to achieve short- or medium-term gains for animals
  • Work with the legal team to validate proposed amendments to existing laws 
  • Monitor current bills to identify opportunities to make gains for animals 
  • Participate in drafting briefs 
  • Contact political parties on behalf of BESA to organize meetings and advocate for amendments or laws proposed by BESA
  • Draw inspiration from other countries’ policies to advance our proposals
  • Identify collaborations with other animal rights organizations

Commitment: 

 

Between 5 and 10 hours per week 

Prerequisites:

  • Strong knowledge of federal, municipal, and provincial political spheres
  • Strong ability to express ideas clearly and persuasively, both in writing and speaking
  • Strong ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of the animal advocacy movement in Quebec and internationally, or an interest in learning about it
  • Legal experience is an asset
