They show two of the cruelest events at these rodeos: <strong>calf roping<\/strong> and <strong>steer wrestling<\/strong>. font-size: 14pt; line-height: 1.5em;\">Since then, nothing has changed: the same events continue to be presented as entertainment, putting animals&#x2019; lives at risk and causing them suffering and stress simply to amuse crowds. <a href=\"https:\/\/daq.quebec\/quoi-de-neuf\/communique-de-presse-dossier-rodeo-2\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #549e90;\"><strong>A legal action involving rodeos is still underway in Quebec, launched by the organization Droit Animalier Qu&#xE9;bec<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, which accuses the Quebec government of failing to address this problem.<\/p>\n<p>&#xA0;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: 'Roboto', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 1.5em;\">This time, the footage focuses on two events involving young cattle&#x2014;calf roping and steer wrestling&#x2014;because, on their own, they sum up what rodeo costs animals: a few seconds of spectacle in exchange for fear, pain, injuries and, sometimes, even death.<\/p>\n<p>&#xA0;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-family: 'Roboto', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14pt; line-height: 1.5em;\">The situation is clear: our government lacks the courage to uphold the simple values shared by the vast majority of Quebecers, and the code of practice published to regulate these activities is nothing more than a way to pretend to take action when, in reality, nothing is really changing. Everyone knows that animals are not toys or objects that can be stressed, tortured or injured for pleasure. Unfortunately, this tragedy was not an isolated incident: rodeos systematically expose animals to distress, fear and pain. The techniques used\u2014such as spurs, ropes tightly cinched around the groin, and deliberately provoking panic\u2014are incompatible with modern animal welfare standards. A legal proceeding concerning rodeos is still underway in Quebec, given the serious issues raised by these events. This year again, investigative footage released by BESA Quebec shows the extent of the animal suffering caused by these activities.\\n\\nToday, many cities and regions around the world have chosen to ban or restrict rodeos, recognizing that animal suffering can no longer be justified in the name of entertainment. Advances in scientific knowledge, growing public awareness of animal sentience and increasing ethical concerns are prompting more and more municipalities to take action.\\n\\nQuebec cannot afford to be left behind. Municipalities play an essential role in protecting animals within their boundaries and promoting events that reflect the values of compassion and responsibility shared by many residents. Allowing rodeos to take place means endorsing practices that cause animals distress and injury\u2014something that is becoming increasingly unacceptable to society.\\n\\nI respectfully ask you to consider banning rodeos within your municipality, or at the very least, to stop supporting these types of events.
