the Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Equines, a reference document that sets the minimum welfare standards for horses, ponies, donkeys, and other equines nationwide. This long-awaited revision represents a crucial opportunity to improve the lives of thousands of animals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: roboto, geneva, sans-serif; line-height: 1.5em; color: #002820;\">But time is running out: <strong>there are fewer than 10 days left to participate in the public consultation and demand a Code that truly protects horses<\/strong>. All too often, horses are still victims of outdated or dangerous practices, and many continue to live in conditions that jeopardize their physical or psychological health. Equine welfare experts point out that weaning too early leads to anxiety, behavioural issues, and long-lasting physiological impacts. The new Code must absolutely establish a mandatory minimum age for weaning, based on current scientific data, to prevent premature separations, which are unfortunately still common in Canada. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-058e5f5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"058e5f5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; color: #549e90;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: roboto, geneva, sans-serif; line-height: 1.5em;\">Stricter requirements for transportation<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: roboto, geneva, sans-serif; line-height: 1.5em; color: #002820;\"><br>Transportation is one of the riskiest times for horses: injuries, heat stress, falls, dehydration, prolonged confinement&hellip; Equine protection organizations have long been calling for stricter rules, which, according to BESA, should be part of the new Code. BESA recommends tighter regulations to ensure the comfort of horses being transported, particularly regarding access to water and food, which should be mandatory for any transport lasting more than 6 hours. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-22dd7b2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"22dd7b2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; color: #549e90;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: roboto, geneva, sans-serif; line-height: 1.5em;\">Taking psychological well-being into account<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: roboto, geneva, sans-serif; line-height: 1.5em; color: #002820;\"><br>Horses are social, sensitive, and intelligent animals. Their well-being isn&rsquo;t just about the absence of injuries or reducing <span class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"cmtt_218edbdae62bae079ba08cba2c8bdcc8\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'  tabindex='0' role='link'>stereotypies<\/span> once they&rsquo;ve already developed.
